February 15-21st

Tuesday: Alright, boys, I'm back after a month of feeling sorry for myself, I put on my shoes and ran around the neighborhood. I ran for only 6.5 minutes before I needed a walking break but I only walked for a couple of minutes before I was running again. I must admit I walked on the steepest hills. I did get a beautiful new view of the city (I will walk with you there next time you visit Greg). Google maps says my route was 2.4 miles. It was a dubious start, but it was a start. I am thinking I will start what I did the summer I was unemployed in Missouri -- I ran whenever I was bored. I think I can run a couple of times a day when I'm thinking about taking a nap instead.

I'm planning to develop a healthy eating plan this evening and shop around that. I don't mind eating healthy, I just have to have the good foods on hand. I double-checked my savings this afternoon and it's very strong. Even though I don't have any income, I may splurge on an iPod Nano soon because I really think that the Nike Fit running tracker is SO cool. Maybe I will reward myself with that if I run for a month regularly.

I also have to admit its much more fun to run outside .... I ran down Polk street, which is lined with interesting shops so there were a lot of people to watch as I raced by.

Wednesday: I ran this morning as soon as I charged my iPhone after waking up. I ran for 8.25 minutes this time before I needed a walk break, but I walked most of the walk after that. The hills were rough (one of my knees feels weird) and it was quite hot. I washed my Nike running jacket for the first time today because I noticed it really smelled funny. Google maps says I ran (travelled?) 2.3 miles.

January 10-16

Monday: I didn't do any exercise today. I had a scheduled bar class, but after the big news at work, I wasn't feeling it at all. I walked home though (about 20 minutes).

Tuesday: Bar method! The classes are still incredibly hard and today was no exception. In particular, we did a lot of thigh work and my muscles were wobbling everywhere. I went to the gym, but realized almost as soon as I started that it wasn't going to work today. I ran a mile in ten minutes then left.

1/12/10 -- 1.14 miles (counts warmup in distance)

I took the rest of the week off. I haven't been able to muster the energy since I'm so behind with my fitness and of the uncertainity in my future. I hope to change that next week.

January 3-9

Wednesday

On Wed, I did a .10 mile walk warm-up, then ran 1.5 miles without stopping. I fluctuated between 5.5 and 6.5 speed depending on how tired I was.

My first run on the treadmill in the gym! The TV shows on after work are seriously boring. There was a news story about a police officer shot in Oakland and drama about baseball players who were shirked out of a hall of fame bid.

1/6/10 -- 2.72 miles

Thursday

Thursday, I started the Bar Method again. I had a familiar teacher so it was particularly embarrasing that I couldn't even pretend that I was still in shape. My muscles gave out very early in the sets. It didn't help that Tammi (a girl I work with) was a few feet away from me, secretly mocking me. It felt good to wake up those muscles again though.

Friday

Friday, my first double header! I went to bar method first even though I'm still sore from yesterday. Stretching before class was the best my body felt all day. It was easier than yesterday but I still couldn't complete any of the sets (and only did a few pushups).

Immediately after bar, I crossed the street (I'm so lucky to have my fitness spots both across the street from my office) to the gym to run on the treadmill. The run was actually relatively easy because my muscles were warmed up. I started to get bored though. I need to put mp3 books on my iPod pronto.

The summer that I ran a lot I set a goal -- run a little farther/better than I did the run before. So today I pushed myself and did 2.3 miles straight in 20 minutes! (I was actually shooting for 1.6 mi but when I hit that, I wasn't too tired so I kept running).

1/8/10 --2.87 miles (329 calories)

Ringing in the New Year

I did three runs in Alabama with Greg, in the seriously freezing weather (20-30 degrees). We ran twice in a park and once around his high school track. We couldn't track the exact distance but I ran a little less than a mile straight the first day, exactly a mile the second, and a little over a mile the second. I'd guess at the following (each in 30 mins):

Day 1: 2 miles
Day 2: 2.25 miles
Day 3: 2.5 miles

This distance includes walking in between (very slow) jogs. It was actually a bit easier to run in the cold because I couldn't feel my legs. I was very sore after the first run (even in my abs and shoulders) but it got much easier after the first run.
